"The animal rights movement in the United States is part of a larger, global
animal rights movement, and the international exchange of ideas is often
facilitated by newspapers, books, and journal articles. For that reason, I
have included foreign publications written in English, especially relevant
philosophical works. It is not the purpose of this bibliography to define the
position of those who oppose the animal rights movement, but I have included
a number of articles and books that do so. They provide context for the
controversy and demonstrate the animal rights movement'' success in provoking
debate and response. Citations are divided by major animals issues and, when
necessary, subdivided within each division. A subject index is also included
